THE ever-popular Moorgreen Country Show gained international status this year - thanks to Hucknall Rolls-Royce Amateur Radio Club.
Members put on a 'special event' station to promote the show over the air and had their own unique call sign - GB5MCS (Golf Bravo 5, Moorgreen Country Show).
Operators made contact with other stations both locally and in other parts of the world, including Italy, Spain, Russia and the Bahamas.
Formed in 1987, the club is a Radio Society of Great Britain-registered exam-centre at foundation, intermediate and advanced levels.
With the weather favourable, albeit a touch autumnal, the 160th show again attracted thousands of people to the 40-acre Watnall showground on Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday.
Monday produced the best turnout when two of the car parks had to be closed because they were full.
Show president Chris Balls stressed that the event played a valuable role in promoting rural lifestyles.
"It needs to be borne in mind that many people who live in towns never see a cow or sheep from one year to the next," he said.
"But at Moorgreen, they not only get a chance to look at farm animals but can also touch them.".

Show secretary Andrew Marshall said all the events reported a near-record following and, as always, the aim was to put on attractions to suit all ages.

The cattle and sheep classes produced a high standard of entries and there was a record number of exhibits in the poultry section.
Moorgreen had its own version of the Grand National in the form of Joseph Fossett's Amazing Racing Pigs. Tempted by food, they hared down a track and hurdled jumps in the form of hay bales.

Another rib-tickling feature proved to be the Drakes of Hazard, in which sheepdogs tried to round up none-too-willing ducks.

The main-ring programme also included birds of prey, vintage tractors, classic cars, unaffiliated show jumping and grand parades of champion cattle, sheep and shire horses. As is now customary, the Dancing Diggers team provided a rousing finale on both days.

Members of Hucknall Rotary Club attended the show to promote their Help For Heroes concert at the town's Titchfield Park on Sunday (September 6).
Six-year-old Phoebe Corner, formerly of Hucknall and now living in Ravenshead, was among the award winners in the pony classes. She was riding Boston Bell Flower, whose stable name is Chunky.

The awards ceremony is one of the highlights of the prestigious two-day show and a popular curtain-raiser.
Show chairman Marie Lowe and gardening guru John Stirland conducted the ceremony, assisted by civic guests.
A new trophy was a salver donated by Dispatch chief reporter Denis Robinson in memory of his mother, the late Kathleen Robinson, who was an enthusiastic fan of the show.
The award was for the best display of cut flowers and the winner was Dorothy Allsop, of Smalley in Derbyshire.
Among the other top award-winners were Fred Bailey, Reg Newton, David Hodgkinson, Howard Kilbourn and Jo Young. Winners in the children's classes included six-year-old Alfie Parrett, of Yorke Street, Hucknall.
Special praise was earned by Hucknall keyboard entertainer Clive Allen, alias Clive Bumstead, a former head teacher of the town's Annie Holgate Junior School.
Clive (62), of Watnall Road, fulfilled an engagement to play at the awards ceremony - only four days after he underwent a thyroid operation in Nottingham City Hospital.
